Children and Family Ministries

In 2009 the Children and Family Ministry Program was launched at McGaheysville UMC.  Family Ministries came about as our church began to grow and we recognized that children and families are the mainstay of the church.  In a society where families are in decline, we believe it is important to develop and maintain programs that help families worship, as well as grow in their faith together.  We also believe there is no more important a group within the church than the children.  The Children & Family Ministry Team strives to develop programs specifically targeted at reaching the needs of children and helping them to grow in their faith.

One of our goals is to help our church appeal to new families and open our church for them to come to know Jesus.   Our church offers many opportunities to get involved, however many of the opportunities tend to segregate family members from each other, as the adults are with other adults, the children in their Sunday School classes, and the youth are hanging out with their youth group. These are all excellent ways for a person to grow in their individual spirituality, but there is a need for a family to have their faith nurtured as a whole.   Between school, work, and various other activities it seems there is little time left over to do things as a family, our church sees a need to provide a platform for family time and has been striving to fill that need through our Children & Family Ministries.

Family Fun & Fellowship Nights  are scheduled periodically.  This is a great opportunity for the whole family to be together with other families and the church family as a whole.  The evening is started with a dinner then fellowship time and a planned activity, such as a Family Movie or playing Family Board Games.  There is never a charge for this activity, it is an opportunity for the hurried families to have a night off from cooking and an evening concentrated on family activities instead of individual activities.
